WIDOWS FOR ED: A DUBIOUS MOVEMENT PROMOTING POLITICAL DISARRAY
In an alarming development, a new group has emerged on the political scene, self-identified as “Widows for Ed,” or, in a more derogatory tone, “illegitimate, failed Scarfmore.” This controversial outfit has sparked intense debate and suspicion, as their agenda appears to be more than just a mere support group. Rather, it seems to be a catalyst for further societal turmoil, including the creation of more widows, orphans, widowers, and tragically, the increased deaths of children.
The formation of “Widows for Ed” is a perplexing and unsettling phenomenon. The group, accused of being akin to prostitutes, appears to be embarking on a path that would inadvertently or deliberately lead to more suffering and loss. The sheer audacity and the potentially devastating impact of their actions are startling. This is not a mere prophecy or an exaggeration, but a realistic outcome if their activities are not scrutinized and understood in their entirety.
So, how does this group, with its contentious name and approach, contribute to the creation of more societal woes? The answer lies in their indirect support and legitimization of the ruling party, ZANU PF. This party, described in scathing terms as “illegitimate, failed, vile, terrorist, tyrannical, authoritarian, terrorist, parasitic, pestilential, plundering, looting, people’s welfare neglecting, supreme law of the land mutilating and assaulting, illicitly self-enriching, cancerous and ruinous,” has been at the helm of Zimbabwe’s political landscape for decades. The endorsement from “Widows for Ed” does more than just support a political party; it perpetuates a system fraught with corruption and misgovernance.
The consequences of such endorsement are dire. It means the continuation of a political system that has been characterized by a lack of accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. The country’s failure to transition into a liberal and constitutional democracy is further cemented by the actions of this group. The lack of separation of powers, devolution of powers, and resilient constitutionalism only worsens the plight of the oppressed and terrorized impoverished citizens. They continue to suffer from neglect, with no access to fundamental constitutional rights like clean water, shelter, education, healthcare, and food.
Moreover, “Widows for Ed” seems to be turning a blind eye to the rampant corruption that has plagued Zimbabwe for years. This endorsement can be seen as a tacit approval of past corruption scandals that have left the country in a state of paralysis, inevitably sliding towards state failure and collapse. The list of scandals is long and disheartening, including the Paweni scandal, Air Zimbabwe Fokker Plane Scandal, Zisco Steel blast Furnace Scandal, Willowgate Scandal, and many more. Each of these incidents has contributed to the country’s current predicament, yet “Widows for Ed” appears to ignore these historical facts.
The emergence of this group raises critical questions about the nature of political support and activism in Zimbabwe. It is essential to examine the motivations and implications of such organizations, especially when their actions can lead to further destabilization and suffering. The role of “Widows for Ed” in the current political landscape is a reminder of the complex and often murky world of political allegiance and its impact on a nation’s future. As Zimbabwe continues to grapple with its political and economic challenges, the presence and influence of groups like “Widows for Ed” cannot be overlooked or underestimated.
